However, certain firms sometimes used a trade label, name-stamp or signature and this volume, compiled with the active co-operation of many antique dealers, collectors, auctioneers and scholars in the UK and abroad provides a pictorial record of all known marked items made by London furniture makers between 1700 and 1840. Everyone with an interest in furniture will welcome having a consolidated record of such information which, until now, has been widely scattered in sale catalogues, trade advertisements, periodical literature, books, photographic archives and museums.
